Indigenous First Responders

Resilient Minds addresses the unique needs of Indigenous first responders living and working in Indigenous communities. This includes Indigenous firefighters, emergency medical services, and community nurses.

 

Using a ‘two-eyed seeing’ approach, the program was adapted in 2022 through funds received from the Public Health Agency of Canada. This adaptation blends Indigenous and Western perspectives and is guided by a steering committee made up of Indigenous emergency managers, educators, firefighters, and leaders from First Nations, Inuit and Métis communities. This approach ensures cultural relevance and accessibility.

 

Resilient Minds is delivered by a certified peer instructor and certified CMHA Ontario instructor.

Recognize the effects of psychological stress/trauma

Communicate effectively with peers in distress

Respond promptly, safely, and appropriately to citizens in need

Apply strategies to manage stress and boost resilience
